Camping This Summer? Here Are The Best Torches To Bring
In the post-COVID world, camping has, to the surprise of many, retained the peak of popularity it achieved when foreign travel was more complicated. In fact, many of those who turned to camping as we came out of lockdown have chosen to carry on camping. The pull of the great outdoors, sleeping closer to nature and just enjoying the simple things in life certainly has its appeal, but there are certain things you cannot manage without when you are camping.
The humble torch is one of these items, and one that all too often people leave at home (or worse still forget to bring spare batteries for). Trying to find the toilets on your campsite in the dark with no torch can be a tricky task with equipment such as ropes as well as other hazards all over the place. With this in mind, we take a look at some of the best camping torches for this summer’s trip.
Olight S2R Baton II
This compact torch is a very popular choice. It has five levels of brightness, and a maximum of 1,050 lumens, making it bright enough to light up a path at nighttime. It has a traffic indicator so you can see when the battery is running low. This is a good waterproof torch.
Maglite ML150LRX
The Maglite is a popular choice with campers as it is compact and very robust. With a staggering 1082 lumens and a beam range of 458 metres this is one of the more expensive torches out there, but well worth its price tag. If, however, you are likely to find yourself in a situation where a waterproof torch will be important, it’s worth considering that the Maglite isn't particularly waterproof. Here at BuyaBattery, we stock a range of Maglite torches that you can find on our website.
Nebo Big Larry 2
Whilst this torch was built with workshops in mind, and it is magnetic, it also lends itself very well to camping. The wand style torch also has a clip which allows the user to use it as a pen torch as well, and the magnetic spot offers hands free use which offers even more versatility when camping. It is water and impact resistant and has a range of different light options. Its 3 x AA batteries means that you can average 20 hours of use, perfect for a shorter camping trip. However, if you’re planning anything longer, you may want to pack some spare batteries.
Life Systems Intensity 370 Hand Torch
This is a small but powerful torch that offers all of the functionality you might need for camping. The 370 lumens LED bulb has a beam that can be widened or narrowed depending on what you need. It can light up things that are 100ft away. The five brightness modes include a flashing SOS mode. It is water resistant, and pocket sized, and the 2 x AA batteries offer a runtime of around 60 hours.
The best torch for your camping trip will depend on a number of different things. If you are backpacking, for example, the most compact torch will be best. If your torch will be your only source of light in the evenings, then something with good runtime will also be important.
