Earlier this month from the 28th of July to the 8th of August, 72 commonwealth nations took part in the 2022 Commonwealth Games here in the UK! The games this year were held in Birmingham and they were incredibly successful, with England receiving 57 gold medals and 176 medals overall. England came an impressive second place this year, with Australia taking the top spot.

 

The last time the UK hosted the Commonwealth Games was in Manchester in 2002, where we also came second to Australia who won with a whopping 207 medals.

How England succeeded in the 2022 Commonwealth Games

This year in the Commonwealth Games England narrowly lost out on the top spot to Australia, by just two medals! This is an incredible feat from our English athletes.

 

There were many young and ambitious athletes competing this year, who all did incredibly well! 17 year old athletes brought home gold medals in diving and rhythmic gymnastics, an incredible success for England.

 

The entire English team did remarkably well this year, hauling in 176 medals overall which is a brilliant achievement for both the athletes and coaches.
