Batteries are often a household necessity, used for everyday items including your television remote, the kitchen clock and your children’s toys. We can bet that anytime you need a battery, you can’t find a single one; but when you don’t, you have cupboards full! Whatever you use your batteries for, it’s not always easy to decide which type is most appropriate. However, rechargeable batteries are an incredibly convenient solution for many applications. If you are using devices that require power regularly, these batteries could be the perfect fit. Here are just a few of the benefits associated with investing in rechargeable batteries.
Rechargeable batteries can be used multiple times
One of the most appealing features of using rechargeable batteries is that they can be recharged over and over again; some can be used up to 1500 times. By simply using a suitable battery charger, you can recharge your batteries in a matter of minutes or hours.
Of course, disposable batteries can only be used once and then have to be put in the recycling bin once they have been drained. In this sense, rechargeable batteries are convenient and might even save you time and money.
Many different types of rechargeable batteries
Rechargeable batteries have been developed with a number of handy features. One of the most advanced types is precharged rechargeable batteries. Used in all sorts of equipment including everyday devices, the batteries are ready to use straight out of the pack. With a low self-discharge rate, they will keep their charge for 1 to 5 years, even when not in use.
However, we do offer a selection of rechargeable batteries to suit different applications.
Saving money and resources
Of course, the most appealing concept of using rechargeable batteries is that you are reducing the amount of waste. Rechargeables have 28 times less impact on the environment than disposable batteries. NiMH rechargeable batteries are the more environmentally friendly choice. Rechargeables require much less energy to charge than is needed to manufacture disposable batteries in the first place.
What’s more, despite having to buy the batteries and a battery charger, you will save money in the long run by not having to buy brand new batteries every time yours run out.
Should you use rechargeable or disposable?
This is not to say that disposable alkaline batteries are no longer a good choice. It essentially comes down to how many times you need to change the battery in your device. If you are finding yourself changing the batteries in your DAB radio or wireless mouse frequently, then you will benefit from rechargeables.
However, the likes of your TV remote or clock won’t drain your batteries quite so often, so alkaline batteries are perfectly fine to use.
Although rechargeable batteries are a great option for devices where you change the batteries often, disposable alkaline batteries are still the most common choice, accounting for 80% of all batteries sold in the UK.
