You’d be forgiven for thinking that the normal way to watch something now is through a laptop, tablet or app. The rise of Netflix and other streaming services that come with a ready-made app have changed the way we watch television over the years. A recent
report by Ofcom revealed that the younger generation are watching a third less TV on traditional sets than in 2010, revealing a huge increase in digital viewing.
Due to the likes of Netflix and Amazon continuing to gather pace, traditional viewing is favoured less by younger viewers. The most loyal to traditional TV sets are the over-65s. YouTube is also very popular with younger audiences, with a number of video bloggers now having millions of followers and subscribers.
You’ll also probably remember when the BBC3 TV channel went digital, with viewers only able to watch it online. While this saved the BBC millions of pounds, it further demonstrated the viewing habits of the public.
High tech viewing
As technology continues to progress and people invest in new solutions like a Fire TV Stick, we’ve started to feel a little disheartened with what’s on ‘normal’ TV. Ofcom’s report found that 29% of those surveyed felt like programme quality has worsened.
Even Sky continues to get updates; with the new Sky Q, watching and recording television has never been so high-tech. So, if our watching habits have changed, what does that mean for your technology around the home?
Better viewing options means an update of technology in your home; whether it’s a new Sky box or a Netflix subscription. It might even result in investing in a modern television or sound system to accommodate for the shift in technology; newer models of TV will come with Netflix already built-in.

We’re here to remind you that despite television and streaming moving forward at a lightning pace, some seemingly ‘old school’ technology isn’t obsolete just yet. In other words, the television remote is still a firm part of family life and let’s be honest, you’d probably still be lost without it; even with all your new fancy subscriptions.
You’ll still need replacement
batteries for your TV remote so don’t forget to keep spares in your home; particularly if you have your usual television remote as well as a Fire Stick or other type of remote!
What’s more, if you’ve started to watch more programmes on your tablet, then it’s likely you’ll want to watch them on the go too. It might be handy to keep a
portable USB charger with you to make sure you can watch your favourite series right to the end.
So, no matter how fast technology moves; don’t forget the basics!
