Eneloop batteries have been created with an eco-friendly approach, with a range of rechargeable batteries and chargers made with the latest technology. Eneloop offer 3 different ranges to suit your battery needs, with quality chargers to keep your devices powered up.

When it comes to charging your Eneloop batteries, we’ve answered some of the most popular questions about the batteries and the chargers.

Do I need to charge new Eneloop batteries before using them?

There are 3 Eneloop battery collections, including Eneloop Pro, standard Eneloop and Eneloop Lite. Each of these collections are pre-charged, meaning they are ready to use straight from the pack. You will see the phrase ‘ready to use’ written on the packaging.

While they may not be fully charged, they are usually pre-charged by solar energy up to around 70% at the factory. This means you can use your batteries straight away if you wish, instead of waiting for them to charge up first. However, we do recommend giving them a top-up to bring them up to 100%.

What charger should I use?

You can use any NiMH battery charger with the Eneloop batteries. However, it is usually recommended to use a charger that is the same brand as the batteries.

Smart chargers are a great choice, as they have advanced features such as automatic cut-off when the batteries are fully charged. This can help to reduce any damage to the batteries.

We offer a range of Panasonic Eneloop battery chargers that come with batteries included. Check out the Eneloop Pro charger with 4 batteries, or the Panasonic BQ-CC63 charger that comes with 8 batteries.

How long does it take to recharge Eneloop batteries?

The time it takes to recharge your Eneloop batteries can depend on the charger you are using. It also depends on the capacity and size of the batteries and how many batteries you are charging at once.

For example, the Panasonic BQ-CC63 charger can charge:

  • 1-8 batteries (AA 2400-2500mAh) in 6 hours
  • 1-8 batteries (AA 1900-2000mAhh) in 5 hours
  • 1-8 batteries (AAA 900-950mAh) in 3.5 hours
  • 1-8 batteries (AAA 750-800mAh) in 3 hours

You can check the charging times of each of our chargers on the individual product pages. It will also be included in the instruction manual.

What do mA and mAh mean?

You will often see the abbreviations mA and mAh when shopping for batteries. This can help you decide on the right batteries for your needs. mA is the unit used for the charging current, which you can compare to the speed of charging. The higher the mA, the faster the batteries may charge.

mAh stands for milli Ampere hour. This means the amount of energy, or capacity, a battery has.

Can Eneloop batteries really be charged 2100 times?

Eneloop batteries have been designed with sustainability in mind. Standard Eneloop batteries can be recharged up to 2100 times, but this number may vary depending on how the batteries are used. Battery life can decrease slightly over time.

Eneloop technology also means that the batteries can keep up to 70% of their charge for up to 10 years, when not in use.
